Explora receives Gender Equality Certification

We decide to support gender equality by choosing to speak to the younger generations. Only in this way can we truly enable change in the future.

Museo dei Bambini S.C.S.

Since 1998, the Children’s Museum, a social cooperative with a female majority that manages Explora, has encouraged, through its mission, the design of its exhibitions and activities, an inclusive culture based on gender equality. Awareness-raising activities and inclusion programmes have always been a key part of the museum’s design: examples include the Pari (discover the programme) programme and the dedicated workshop, which opened to the public in 2019 and consists of 12 stations that explore stereotypes and prejudices, equality and parity, and rights and duties.

This awareness has led Explora to pursue UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification, which was awarded to the museum in September 2024 by Dasa-Räegister.

The Museo dei Bambini S.C.S. has decided to adopt a Gender Equality Management System (SGPG), in line with current practice, to promote gender equality and the professional growth of women, as well as to create an inclusive environment that values the uniqueness of its workforce.roprio gruppo di lavoro.

Obtaining certification is only the first step in implementing gender equality policies and improving staff well-being.

The Cooperative is inspired by the principles of impartiality, fairness, staff development and combating all forms of violence and discrimination: its main objectives include promoting female participation in the workplace, reducing the pay gap, promoting equality in decision-making and combating gender stereotypes.

In line with the 2020-2025 Gender Equality Strategy defined by the European Union, Explora, through its Gender Equality Policy (Read the document), is committed to preventing discrimination, promoting diversity and fostering work-life balance, applying this policy to all stages of professional development.

The #NOGAP campaign

Explora is not just a place: its identity encompasses an educational mission that translates into initiatives dedicated to children to raise awareness of gender inequality and promote awareness-raising initiatives that value diversity by encouraging cooperation and respect for others.

This is how the #NOGAP communication campaign came about, which aims to give voice to the values promoting gender equality supported by the museum. The campaign aims to go beyond the “informative” objective of gender equality certification, proposing a broader dialogue on issues surrounding gender equality.

The result of the campaign, launched in October, is a short ebook by Explora, created to encourage and promote positive and proactive attitudes towards gender equality.
The ebook is dedicated to educators, school staff, parents and, more generally, adults who wish to carry out educational activities in the workplace, at home or in social contexts, in support of gender equality.

The content of the ebook, which can be downloaded free of charge, is split into:

  • INTRODUCTION TO GENDER EQUALITY: brief analysis of the national context and latest developments in the field of gender equality;
  • INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION: reflections on the words to choose to allow each individual to be represented in their identity;
  • TIPS FOR RAISING EQUAL CHILDREN: tips for enabling girls and boys to grow up in environments free from gender stereotypes;
  • THE EQUALITY MANIFESTO: 10 tips to get children thinking about gender equality and independence;
  • ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY: PARI card game, which can be downloaded free of charge and played at home or at school.
