GROW UP WITH STEM: promoting STEM subjects for girls and boys aged 4-6 years is a project carried out in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office – Department for equal opportunities as part of the STEM2020 Notice, sponsored by Explora to get boys and girls aged 4-6 years familiar with STEM subjects during 10 days in out-of-school camps.

To counter the gender gap, the STEM educational activities, carried out in 10 free-access days, offer a different approach to traditional sciences and mathematics, making it easy to apply the scientific method to daily life. Learning the computational thought of physics, biology, mathematics and chemistry takes place through actions that help focus on applications of the real world from a perspective of problem-solving.

Here follows the list of themed activities for the 10 STEM days:

• Engineering and inventions with soft circuits;
• Mathematics and constructions, to play with measures, shapes and dimensions;
• Chemistry and experiments with mixtures and solutions;
• Biology and nature through taking care of the vegetable garden;
• Physics and observation to find out about wind energy;
• Chemistry and bicarbonate to discover and experiment with reactions;
• Biology and microscopes to observe the world around us;
• Mathematics and seeds to classify and regroup;
• Technology and coding with bee bots;
• Physics and water to play with floating.
