The event
The Explora Museum is hosting RiscArti, SEArculART, the 13th edition of the international festival of artistic recycling, conceived and directed by Marlene Scalise.
Friday 2 October, from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm, the museum’s outdoor area will host a demonstration workshop led by CIAN, the Chilean creative platform and art collective, who, together with the children, will bring to life a giant whale made from recycled materials.
Participation is free and open to all. Participants are welcome to bring materials such as shopping bags, bottles and fabric offcuts.
Walk to MareVivo
At 7.00 pm, the artwork will set off from Explora towards the headquarters of MareVivo, Fondazione Ambientalista – ETS, based at Scalo de Pinedo in Rome, to coincide with the start of Tevere Day on the River Tiber. The collective march for the sea will involve children and adults, alongside the CIAN Collective. Climate Pride activists and the artist Usiku, with his *Testamento del mare*, will also take part in the march.
A sort of collective, participatory march featuring jellyfish and marine animals, made from recycled plastics and waste materials, in which art becomes a tool for raising awareness and positive mobilisation. A route that starts from a space dedicated to culture and education – the Explora Museum – crosses the city to reach the river, and symbolically returns the river to the community and the community to the river.
The march concludes on the River Tiber with an inaugural toast that officially opens the environmental village and the exhibition areas.
Scheduled from 2 to 11 October at the MareVivo headquarters, the event will showcase artworks by over 26 national and international artists who use waste materials (Trash Art), with a particular focus on the theme of this year’s SEArculART edition, which, through artistic installations and projects by landscape architects, explores the sea as a natural ecosystem, a cultural space and a symbolic place.

RIscARTI has been working for several years to raise awareness of waste through the arts. The aim is to educate, entertain and foster a broad-based awareness of environmental issues, highlighting waste as a creative resource. To support the environment, practise resource conservation, develop talent and outline new scenarios and sustainable lifestyles.
