Young Energy Saver
information
Project duration: 01/08/2008 – 31/08/2010
Description
Young Energy Savers (YES), is a fun and exciting new TV animation project aimed at raising awareness among children about energy consumption, alternative and clean energy and sustainable transportation.
Yes, the two-year project (September 2008 to September 2010), was supported by the European Commmission Programme Intelligen Energy Europe (IEE), and Explora along with partners Business Solution (project coordinator), Griffilms, The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), WWF European Policy Programme.
The aim of YES was to produce a fun animation, My Friend Boo, and to distribute it for free to European (and not only) broadcasters. The Energy strand was launched by the European Parliament on April 27th 2010. Three episodes constitute the series, focusing on: Energy saving, renewable energies and sustainable transports. A free teaching pack provides teachers with a tool to practically teach energy education in European schools and gives pupils an opportunity to explore energy issues in more detail!
Thanks to its coordination skills, Explora created a network of European Children’s Museums and coordinated their work. 100 children per country were involved in the project:
Technopolis in Mechelen, Belgium
Artland in Sofia, Bulgaria
Imaginosity in Dublin, in Ireland
Parkminiatur in Lodz, in Poland
The 5 Museums coordinated the work of 5 primary schools that took part in focus groups, during which they collected input, opinions, thoughts and knowledge on the ‘Energy’ issues. Further inquiries were carried out through the collection of feedbacks on the cartoon by children’s parents and visitors. During weekends screenings for families were arranged in the Museums premises.
