The event
On Friday 26 September, the Explora museum will again present the European Researchers’ Night 2025, an event promoted as project LEAF – heaL thE plAnet’s Future – by Frascati Scienza.
Two free admission sessions, at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., for “ACQUA vita, scoperta e meraviglia” (Water: life, discovery and wonder), an event featuring workshops, experiments and activities designed to discover how precious water is for all forms of life and how present it is in our daily lives.
Thanks to informal learning and the support of researchers, children can discover the value of water and the importance of scientific research.
The event will be an opportunity to explore a preview of Giochi d’acqua (Water Games), the new exhibition completely renovated thanks to the Explora Cresce project, supported by the Fondazione Roma and designed to transform the museum with innovative proposals.
Always at the heart of the museum, Water Games promotes the learning of scientific and mathematical concepts through direct experience: an exhibition that invites visitors to manipulate water, observe its interactions with objects and develop curiosity, a spirit of inquiry and experimentation.
The activities of the European Researchers’ Night
Water is history – ages 3-5
Water has always been essential for the birth of civilisations. Let’s find out how it was used in cities, including fountains, baths and aqueducts.
Researcher: Valentina Colagrossi, Associate Archaeologist ISPC-CNR (Florence office).
The thousand and one forms of water – ages 6/8.
Our planet is covered with water and, as far as we know, it is also the only one teeming with life thanks to this element. Let’s discover how water shapes life and sculpts the rocks of the Earth, in a cycle of intertwining and flowing between the animal, plant and mineral worlds.
Researcher: Marco Massimi, Researcher, Botanist, Naturalist, fellow and research collaborator at various universities.
Microworlds of water – ages 9/11
Let’s discover how water can “awaken” dormant microorganisms and learn to observe the behaviour of yeasts and lactic acid bacteria.
Researcher Benedetta Caraba, molecular biologist and research fellow at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology, Sapienza University of Rome.
Photos and videos will be taken during the activities.
European Researchers’ Night 2025
Organised by Frascati Scienza and now in its twentieth edition, the European Researchers’ Night celebrates science, passion and curiosity with the 2025 edition of LEAF, which stands for “heaL thE plAnet’s Future”. Museums, schools and institutions from all over Italy are participating in the event with a week full of events dedicated to scientific dissemination: a journey through STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics – which will culminate on 26 September 2025 with the European Researchers’ Night.
Over the previous two years, the project involved 46 partners and 32 Italian cities (from Padua to Palermo); 900+ events throughout Italy; 2,000 active researchers each year; 21 Marie Curie Fellows; 12,000 students in Researchers@Schools projects; 700 students involved in PCTO courses; 60,000 visitors in total.
LEAF is funded by the European Commission’s HORIZON-MSCA-2023-CITIZENS-01-01 programme, Grant Agreement No. 101161615, as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, which awarded the proposal submitted by Frascati Scienza and its partners an excellent score.
