The project
Naturalia is a project realised with the support of the public call for proposals issued by the Ministry of Universities and Research “Annual Grants – Law 113/91 – Ministerial Decree 641 of May 14, 2024 – PANN24” and designed to promote the dissemination of scientific culture, particularly in the physical and natural sciences.
Objectives
Naturalia aims to promote and foster the dissemination of natural science culture by using “learning by doing” to explore the life cycles of various plant and animal organisms, thereby illustrating the birth, growth, transformations, and metamorphosis of different species.
In particular, the project aims to promote knowledge of nature and the phenomena that characterize it, by observing how the processes that mark the main stages of life manifest and transform over time. At the same time, it seeks to foster the development of ecological awareness, based on an understanding of the profound interdependence between living beings, natural phenomena, and the cycles that regulate the balance of the environment.
Activities
As part of the Naturalia project, the following will be carried out:
- 1 interactive learning path featuring interactive exhibits designed to stimulate curiosity, observation, and questions through experiments, with the aim of promoting an approach to the study of nature based on an innovative inquiry-based learning method (IBL or IBSL).
- 2 training and outreach courses,both in-person and online,offered free of charge to help explain science through “notebooks,” aimed at elementary school teachers and educators (S.O.F.I.A. online platform);
- Publication of an illustrated children’s book featuring nature observation activities;
- a podcast consisting of 6 episodes on the topic of “the life cycles of animals and plants”;
- participatory design of the play area, involving two elementary school classes;
- educational activities, including a visit to the play area and classroom sessions using an educational kit for 25 elementary school classes;
- Workshops for families to take part in during their visits to Explora.
The project is carried out in collaboration with the Sapienza Museum Complex, SAPeri&Co. | Research and Services Center, Sapienza University of Rome, and the Via P.A. Micheli Comprehensive School.
